Chase the chameleon was a happy chameleon but he always knew he was different from his friends, he was green. Chase was unable to change to different colours just like his other friends could. Chase tried to sit on red tomato and he couldn’t change colour, matter how hard he tried. His friends laughed at him and they didn’t want play with because Chase was different. Chase was very sad and went to talk to his grandfather, who was old and wise. Chase’s grandfather said “ stop trying so hard to fit in, just keep being yourself”. Chase went over to the river and stood on a log and looked at his reflection. Slowly Chase saw his skin change from green to brown, he scurried quickly to see his grandfather. On the way he passed his friends and they saw his changing color as he ran by. Chase called out “ grandfather, I changed colour”. Chase was so excited and his friends came to ask him to come and play.

Gracie lives with her mom and dog in a cabin in the woods. She goes out to play, gets lost in the woods and scared. Then she remembers her mom told her to close her eyes and count to ten, then everything will be better again. Kathy and her mom dropped a ladder into the hole. Chintu climbed up and landed safely on the ground. Kathy’s mom said to them, "Dear children, it's not good to play tricks on others or hurt anyone else. Everyone should like each other and stay happy." Chintu felt very bad and he promised not to trouble anybody again and be friends with everyone. Kathy hugged her mom and said , “I won’t hurt anyone on purpose and l will always help the one in need”. They continued their journey and reached grandmother’s house happily and safely. Our Kindergarten class is learning how to deal with big emotions. When they are feeling overwhelmed by big emotions they should tell an adult they need a break, how we can help them or what is making them feel that way. We want to help them understand their feeling so that they will be able to learn to self-regulate. We encourage deep breathing, breaks, walks, alone time and telling adults how they feel.
