Hi, I’m Karots, the Welsh pony, and though I may be a bit older now, I still have a mischievous streak! As a lesson pony, I spend my days teaching children not just how to ride but how to stay alert and on their toes! My mornings start like anyone else's—with breakfast, but don’t dare give me food I don’t like, or I’ll simply refuse to eat! After my meal, I play with my pony pals—biting, kicking, and running around wildly—it’s our favorite way to bond! Then, the real fun begins. I know when the children arrive, and I can’t wait to greet them. I like to test my new two-legged friends as soon as they put the halter on, by bolting out of the stall. Sometimes I run so fast I lift them right off their feet—what a ride! Of course, if they let go of the lead rope, it’s FREEDOM! I trot around like the star of my own parade, and the humans reward me with carrots and cookies for my stellar performance. Once they catch me, it’s time for the next round of fun in the arena. I make sure their ride is exciting—no boring trotting in circles for me! I prefer zig-zag patterns, spontaneous canters, and inserting my head or leg through the fence, just to make them squeal. I’ve also mastered the art of picking up branches, just to see how long I can hold on while they try to pry them from my mouth! Of course, after all that fun, I always end the day with good behavior. The children un-tack me, give me lots of scratches (the human version of chewing, I’ve learned), and most importantly, plenty of carrots. After all, carrots are a Karots’ favorite treat!

What are you doing?” “We’re having a muddy fun time!” Bud said, splashing more mud. Pup wagged his tail. “I want to join!” Gus and Bud laughed. “Okay, Pup! Jump in!” Pup jumped right into the puddle, sending mud flying. They all rolled and played until they were covered in mud from head to toe. After a while, they decided it was time to clean up. “Let’s go back to my house,” said Gus. “We can wash off in the tub!” When they got to Gus's house, his mom chuckled at the sight of the muddy friends. “Oh my! What happened to you three?” “We had the best fun in the puddle!” Gus exclaimed, grinning. His mom smiled and filled the tub with warm water. “Alright, muddy buddies, it’s bath time!” After their bath, Gus, Bud, and Pup sat together on the porch, drying off in the sun. “That was the best day ever!” Bud said. “Let’s do it again tomorrow!” Gus replied, his eyes sparkling with excitement. Once upon a time there was a beetle who loved to tell everyone how fast he could run. “I am the fastest insect in the park,” he would say. His slow and steady friend the snail, tired of hearing him brag, challenged him to a race. “Ha,” the beetle thought to himself, “there is no way a snail could ever win against me.” On the day of the race, all of the insects in the park gathered to watch. The centipede waved a checkered flag to start the race. The beetle zoomed past the starting line as fast as he could, while the snail carefully inched herself forward bit by bit. The beetle cried out “You will never win this race at that slow, slow pace.” Out of breath from running, the beetle eventually reached a small pond of water. He thought, “I have plenty of time. I just will go around the pond.” The beetle sped off on his way. Inch by inch the snail crawled along the path. As she reached the pond, she thought, “It would be much shorter if I could somehow float across the water.” Perhaps I could build a boat. The snail gathered up some leaves, twigs and vine. She fashioned a small boat that helped her glide smoothly across the water of the pond. When she got to the other side, she hopped off the boat and could see all of her friends waiting for her at the finish line. Little by little the snail crept along the path until she crossed the finish line at long last. All of her friends cheered. “Hooray for snail!” they cried. A moment later the beetle came running across the finish line. “I can’t believe you beat me!” he said. “You know,” the snail replied with a smile, “being the fastest isn’t always everything”. “Sometimes if you just slow down for a moment and think about your challenge, you can come up with great solutions.”
