They arrived long before Mexico gave him the grant. Edwards became very angry and tried to take over the town. The Mexican government did not support Edwards. Instead, they annulled his contract. Edwards stayed in the area and attempted to start a rebellion. On December 21, 1826, Edwards and his supporters claimed part of East Texas free and independent of Mexico. They named it the Republic of Fredonia. They even had support of the Cherokee in the area. However, most Anglo settlers in Texas did not support Haden’s rebellion. When a group of men from Austin’s colony joined with Mexican soldiers to march on Fredonia, Haden and his brother fled to the United States. The unrest caused Mexican leaders to rethink their immigration policies.

Turkey and ham, piled high with some cheese, “Just look at this goodness! I’ll eat it with ease!” “Don’t forget mustard! It adds a big zing!” He squeezed on a dollop—oh, what joy it can bring! Then he topped it with pickles, so crunchy and round, “A yummy sandwich! It’s the best to be found!” He placed the last slice on top with a thud, And gave it a press with a big happy “thud!” “Now, let’s cut it in half, so easy to share, I’ll take one to my friends, with love and with care!” With a plate full of sandwiches, Sammy did grin, “Making a sandwich is such a win-win! He folds his blanket neatly and fluffs his pillow. Karsen goes to church with his grandma and older sister. They walk hand in hand, ready to start the day with worship. After church, they visit the park. Karsen enjoys the fresh air and plays while they have a little picnic. When they get home, Karsen helps clean the house with his sister. They sweep, dust, and put everything in its place. Karsen also helps his grandma in the garden. Together, they water the plants and pull out weeds. In the afternoon, Karsen joins his sister and friends to clean their neighborhood. They pick up trash and sweep the streets. At night, Karsen enjoys watching TV with his family while having a light dinner. Before bedtime, he kneels once more to pray and thank God for a wonderful day.
